Of Humble Repentance and Worthy Gluttony

Today is Ash Wednesday

“From Dust We Come and to Dust We Shall Return”

Ash Wednesday
T.S. Eliot

Because I do not hope to turn again
Because I do not hope
Because I do not hope to turn
Desiring this man’s gift and that man’s scope
I no longer strive to strive towards such things
(Why should the agèd eagle stretch its wings?)
Why should I mourn
The vanished power of the usual reign?

And on a completely unrelated note… I tried a new scone recipe this morning…. for a friend/co-worker’s surprise baby shower.  I woke up at 4am to get started so that I could make it to my church’s early service.  So i’m thinking that means i’m officially a baker right?  Early hour, covered in flour (that only took me about 5 seconds to think of).

Oh! That just reminded me of that part in Stranger Than Fiction when Harold gives Ana “Flours”. Ridiculously cute.

Anyways… I made Praline Almond Scones (click for recipe) and they turned out pretty dern great!  I LOVE Scones!

Scone Stylings:

I call this one  “Scone in Folk:  This ain’t your grandma’s  British grandma”

The “I’m on a Blog” scone ’cause newsboys don’t deliver to lofts  and apparently birds still never grow old

The “Scone for the Insistent Minimalist who gets called adjectives like ‘Rustic and Frilly’  behind her back” .   When  living really really simply stopped being so exciting and fun.  And because hanging so tightly to utility makes you hungry.

But this is the way that I like them.  All Together forever (or at least until getting brutally massacred by the free homosapian’s chomping incisors and cremated in a narrow duct of repugnant juices only to end up in the Hell of Bowels) Sorry.  I got a little carried away.

From flour dust to flour dust… your scones were truly delish! You are quite the baker, indeed.
